Mike Huckabee Hits Back Against Romney’s Attack on Trump

Utah Republican Sen. Mitt Romney’s latest criticism of President Donald Trump brought him a swift rebuke from former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee.

On Friday, Romney greeted the release of unredacted portions of special counsel Robert Mueller’s report with a tweet stating he was glad government will not be distracted by obstruction of justice charges against Trump.

Although the report made it clear that Trump vehemently opposed the investigation — which Trump said publicly throughout the nearly two years of the Mueller probe — the report also said there was no proof that Trump’s anger with the probe translated into actions that impeded the investigation. The report also made clear that neither Trump nor the Trump campaign colluded with Russia during the 2016 presidential election, which was the initial reason for the investigation.

“It is good news that there was insufficient evidence to charge the President of the United States with having conspired with a foreign adversary or with having obstructed justice,” Romney said in the statement. “The alternative would have taken us through a wrenching process with the potential for constitutional crisis. The business of government can move on.”

The niceties over, Romney — who staunchly opposed Trump’s 2016 candidacy for the Republican nomination for president — let Trump and the Trump campaign have it.

“I am sickened at the extent and pervasiveness of dishonesty and misdirection by individuals in the highest office of the land, including the President,” Romney went on to assert in the statement.

“I am also appalled that, among other things, fellow citizens working in a campaign for president welcomed help from Russia — including information that had been illegally obtained; that none of them acted to inform American law enforcement; and that the campaign chairman was actively promoting Russian interests in Ukraine,” the statement said.

Romney, who has often been tweaked by Trump for losing the 2012 presidential election to former President Barack Obama, closed his statement by denigrating the state of American politics with Trump in the White House.

“Reading the report is a sobering revelation of how far we have strayed from the aspirations and principles of the founders,” he said in the statement.

Huckabee noted that Romney has divided his time between cozying up to Trump and lambasting the president.

“Know what makes me sick, Mitt? Not how disingenuous you were to take @realDonaldTrump $$ and then 4 yrs later jealously trash him & then love him again when you begged to be Sec of State, but makes me sick that you got GOP nomination and could have been @POTUS,” Huckabee tweeted.

Huckabee, the father of White House press secretary Sarah Sanders, was not the only one taking issue with Romney’s comments.

Romney had attacked Trump in a January Op-Ed in The Washington Post.

“But, on balance, his conduct over the past two years, particularly his actions this month, is evidence that the president has not risen to the mantle of the office,” Romney said.

Romney admitted that he has few policy bones to pick with Trump, but said that Trump has been lacking in the role of moralist-in-chief.

“To a great degree, a presidency shapes the public character of the nation,” Romney wrote. “A president should unite us and inspire us to follow ‘our better angels.’ A president should demonstrate the essential qualities of honesty and integrity, and elevate the national discourse with comity and mutual respect. As a nation, we have been blessed with presidents who have called on the greatness of the American spirit. With the nation so divided, resentful and angry, presidential leadership in qualities of character is indispensable. And it is in this province where the incumbent’s shortfall has been most glaring.”

Trump replied to that shot on Twitter.

“Here we go with Mitt Romney, but so fast! Question will be, is he a Flake? I hope not. Would much prefer that Mitt focus on Border Security and so many other things where he can be helpful. I won big, and he didn’t. He should be happy for all Republicans. Be a TEAM player & WIN!” Trump tweeted, invoking former Sen. Jeff Flake. The Arizona Republican bitterly opposed Trump’s policies prior to his departure from the Senate.

Does anyone take old Mitt seriously. He is a nobody these days. He couldn’t be elected as dog catcher. He is a two faced, ingenuous person and he brags he is a religious mormon. So much for that. All he wants is somehow to out front and getting attention. A real loser.

    • joe ferragoogle says:

I agree, what does that have to say about the jerks that elected him. NOT MUCH!

      • tHE mORMONS ELECTED HIM. Rush had a guy on the radio one day and he said , he was from Utah. He of course belongs to the Mormon Church. He said I am ashamed this guy got elected. I did not vote for him, but, the Church asked for everyone to vote for this idiot. Mitt is a Carpetbagger, among other things.

You do realize that old MIT is a Utah senator.

    • Notalib says:

Romney, quit whining about Trump and take on the cause of America. Otherwise you sound like a disgruntled jealous old fool. Help Trump improve America. Truthfully Romney, he is a far better man than you. Get over it.

  • SweetLadyMary says:

I am disappointed in Mitt Romney for the second time. The first time when he allowed Obama to walk all over him in the debate and lost. The second time when he started bad-mouthing Trump. Romney may not agree with what Trump does or says all the time, but he should get used to the idea that he is in the GOP and is not a Democrat. I hope he isn’t Flake II or else he will not get reelected again.

  • Dragonfly43 says:

Sour grapes Mitt needs to shut up and support our president!

  • Donna Davis says:

First of all I want to state that I will support President Trump in the 2020 election. Any American in their right mind would (I believe) never vote for a Socialist of Communist President and that’s all we have in the Democratic liberal party. It’s sickening. However, I do agree that I wish with all my heart that President Trump was someone I could have more respect for in the way he sometimes is vulgar in his speeches, demeins other people (I think you should treat them with kindness, that to me is what a Christian would do because they can still thow arrows but it makes it more difficult. Morally also, I don’t speak as anymore or less human than he is but all that should have been left behind a long time ago. If we can’t be above reproach in our lives now and leave the past as a lesson to try to be better than we were, than what is life all about. You see the difference in the liberal elite who don’t care about becoming a better person, they just want their own way and God help anyone who gets in their way. They for the most part that I can see from their actions, don’t love America or we the people, they only love themselves and want to pull the wool over our eyes. And they’re doing a great job with the youth of today. Saying you’re a Christian should show a very real change in your life. What the world has to offer no longer means the same to you. You life because Christ came to make you free and forgiven if you honestly tell him you’re sorry. So, if you happen to read this Mr. President, please don’t call yourself a Christian unless your life reflects the life of Jesus. That’s what He game to be an example of..how to live for him, love him for what He did in your place, love and help others (which I believe you do, but not for those who hate you). And yes, I think Mr. Romney could have spoken about the woes of the world instead of concentrating on one person and a former friend. I voted for Mitt Romney, but hope if he was treated the way you are he would have been able to withstand it. I say treat them with kindness, talk about frustrating the enemy. I love you President Trump and Melania and if you happen to read this from a 80 year old Grandma of 5 wonderful young men who make me so proud. I would leave you with to words to ponder…grace and mercy and love and respect for your creator. Have a wonderful and holy Easter.

  • BA says:

MITT IS A RHINO WIMPY TRAITOR POS…..SOMEONE CALL HIM A WHAAAAAMBULANCE!!! CRY BABY

  • James Chapman says:

Romney is a whiny baby who threw his own election at the last debate against the worst president in history Obama. Why isn’t he complaining about the Democrats and Schiff where there is true collusion on film trying to deal with a supposed Russian agent? Where is Romney’s mouth about the fisa abuse, Hillary’s obstruction and crookeness by destroying 33,000 emails; Stok; Page; Brennan; Clapper; Lynch; Rice; Obama, etc., and there weaponizing the top intelligent agencies in the U.S. and the illegal spying. We all know now where Mitt stands, for the devil.

  • Deanne Smith says:

I for one am very disappointed in his childishness! He needs to get over himself, he condemns President Trump for not being more presidential but he sure isn’t being very senatorial either! He needs to quit sitting around trying to find issue with every little thing President Trump has tried to do and do his own job that he was elected to do. Like build the wall!! We have illegals pouring in to our country and already Yuma, Arizona and New Mexico towns are begging for help, they have all these people needing homes, food, etc and they are causing problems for those who live in those places. The mayors are calling for their towns to be declared national emergencies. Something has to be done and soon or our country will be taken over by illegals.

  • Marilyn says:

Mitt didn’t have the guts to stand up to Obama and Candy Coley when he mentioned Russia and these two belittled him. Why didn’t he come back at them? I really think this one act lost him the election. If he didn’t want to support Trump and his agenda, why in the devil did he run? Did he just want to put himself out there like little Flake? Well, Mitt, we’ll out here watching and hope the people in your voting district are watching. Don’t understand why they voted for you in the first place. Get this through you pious thick head: DONALD J. TRUMP IS PRESIDENT. WE VOTED FOR HIM BECAUSE WE SUPPORTED HIS AGENDA. Get with or shut up!!!

  • Russ Wiley says:

Many, many Utahans arebsmitten with Mitt “Can Dio Nothing Wrong” Romney; me being one of those. I have been disappointed by people many times throughout my 72 years and Romney has moved to the top of the list. What a disappointment! California.please take him off our hands.

  • Barbara Johnson says:

Mitt Romney is a bitter man who resents the fact that he could do nothing as the Trump train rolled right over him in the debates and has been going strong ever since. If you had not been a Mormon Mr Romney you would never have won in your state at all. I have no animosity toward the Mormons only that despicable and whiny Romney who is a perfect example of ingratitude and being a knife behind your back kind of guy. You just cannot stand the fact that the people far preferred Donald J Trump over an imbecile like you.

  • Thomas Karones says:

Romney is not only a sore loser, he is now and always has been a RINO! He was a set up to lose candidate in 2012 and now is back in the senate doing his best to defeat all the good work being done by our president!

  • Donna says:

It is very oblivious that mitt is so envious of our Great President Trump that he can’t think clearly……evidently he can’t read either…but who really cares what he thinks or says….he is acting like a spoiled little kid….YUCK !!!

  • Gayle says:

Mittens is a liar, user, hypocrite and scum! No one gives a crap what this RINO loser has to say! The people need to vote him out of office! He is useless.

  • Charles Slcherer says:

No collusion, established and admitted. How can you have a charge of obstruction against a non-crime. If I was falsely charged I certainly would be less than helpful and forthcoming when confronted with these charges I knew were wrong, might even be a bit indigent.

  • John D Cole says:

Mitt couldn’t defeat the effeminate illegal alien in his campaign so he’s mad a Donald Trump for defeating the mentally impaired drunk in his own campaign.

  • Mitt is a bitter loser! The Junior Senator from Utah. The Morons elected this loser. He would never get elected any where else. He used his “faith” for votes. He is a Carpetbagger, like a Gypsy goes wherever he can get some votes. Crawled to POTUS to be Sec of State then knifes him in the back. He isn’t even a RINO, he is a DEMORAT. Guess what Mitt , you AIN”T” ever going to be President. yOU SUCK!

  • pat says:

He still hasn’t gotten over he lost the election, That kind of hate will warp you like it has the Democrats.

  • Mitt, you are just a SORE Bitter LOSER trying to ‘ curry favour ‘ with the Public. You show yourself off as a ‘ Nice Guy ‘; BUT you are actually a Fraud.

  • Richard says:

Mitt isn’t listening to his “better angels” but to that little green-eyed goblin known as Jealousy.
