Dems Begin Open Attack on Constitution… Pass Bill To Completely Dismantle Voting Process

Voices should be heard even if they aren’t able to scream the loudest.

Liberals claim to believe in “equality” and standing up for the “little guy” in the face of bullies, but a movement gaining steam in blue states is putting that in doubt. Frustrated that they didn’t win in 2016, the left has a new plan: Sidestep the Constitution and effectively get rid of the Electoral College.

Colorado is the latest state to jump on board. Last week, Democratic Gov. Jared Polis announced that he would sign a bill which basically re-writes the electoral process, and could pave the way to letting big cities dominate every future presidential election.

The liberal called the Electoral College an “undemocratic relic,” apparently believing that he knows better than the Founding Fathers. “I’ve long supported electing the president by who gets the most votes,” Polis declared on Feb. 24, according to The Hill.

That plan would force Colorado’s electors — the people who actually cast the official votes for president — to side with whichever candidate wins the national popular vote, no matter what. By changing the regulations at the state level but still using puppet electors, liberals would avoid amending the Constitution to get their way.

“It’s a way to move towards direct election of the president,” Polis said.

At first glance, it’s no big deal. Democracy means that people vote and the person with the most votes wins, right?

The problem, of course, is that America was founded as a republic for reason — and it’s quickly evident just how dangerous it could be to bypass the Electoral College.

The United States is a huge and diverse country. The whims and demands of voters in Manhattan are drastically different from the concerns of rural farmers in Iowa — yet the voices of those smaller locations are just as important, especially when you realize that huge percentages of our food and supplies come from the heartland.

The entire purpose of having state and local governments is that a far-off central government can’t bully the rest of the country, but that’s exactly what would happen if the Electoral College were abandoned.

A presidential candidate would only need to win a handful of big cities such as New York, Chicago, and Los Angeles, completely ignoring the concerns of the interior of the vast nation. The voices of millions of Americans who live outside of coastal population centers would be ignored.

Ironically, the plan could also mean that the votes of Colorado’s own citizens don’t really count, because they would be negated if they don’t match the whims of the popular vote. As oneColorado county commissioner rightly pointed out, “we do not support the National Popular Vote, which allows California and New York to decide Colorado’s votes for President.”

But the Rocky Mountain State isn’t alone. An eye-opening number of other states are joining the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact, all moving toward similar legislation.

“The states making up the compact, which already includes New York, Illinois and all the New England states except for New Hampshire, would commit to awarding their electoral votes to whomever wins the popular vote nationally, regardless of the results in the Electoral College,”  The Hill explained.

That Interstate Compact is not likely to have enough support to make a difference in the 2020 election, but it could play a major role in subsequent votes unless conservatives stand up and stop it.

The United States of America was founded on the separation of power, not a no-holds-barred popularity contest.

“Democracy is two wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch,” it’s been said.

Exactly right.

Before Congress could vote on it two thirds of the states have to vote in favor of it and then then Congress can vote on it.

Congress cannot tell the Electoral College how to vote. Each state votes the Electoral College vote based upon its state constitution.

The Electoral College vote was created to prevent one political part from gaining too many national votes from just a few states summarily dismissing all the other states.

Then Congress need two thirds of the vote in the senate, which will not happen; thus, the Democrats cannot possibly get such a bill passed.

The Democrats can spin doctor their bullshit all they want but TRUTH IS A BASTARD and Democrats hate TRUTH.

I agree with you my friend. However the electoral college was established in the Constitution. In order to change the Constitution, both houses would have to pass the referendum by a 2/3 majority vote which in itself is unlikely. Then then entire measure would have to be ratified by a 3/4 majority of the states. Meaning they would need 38 states to ratify the amendment. Currently 32 states have Republican legislatures and 27 of those have Republican governors. It ain’t happening baby.

You are correct with the process needed under current rules & laws, but the Democrats have proven time and again they have no problem inventing new laws they can use to circumvent the current laws, and the Constitution, so they need to be watched closely. The big question is, have they considered what they will do when the inner city citizens no longer buy their bull shit, get tired of living on welfare, the high crime rates, and no good jobs, and start voting Republican, or Libertarian? Then they will be crying the loudest about how this was in violation of the Constitution, because it will no longer serve their dictator style approach to politics.

…two thirds of the states have to vote in favor of it?

Good thing that Califuckingfornia, New Jerk and Illiannoy do not add up to 2/3 of the states.

The Democrats are trying to get around this by having the states they own get the state government to agree to use the popular vote and not the electoral college. They know if the tried this shit in Congress it would never fly.

Our Constitution has been good for 214 yrs. and will be good for another 200 yrs., just as it stands without any changes. Why are we even talking about such trash–we should be working together as “one nation under God” and to work to reduce our debt, encouraging companies to stay in America, strength our industries of Agriculture, energy, transportation, food processing plants, keep our intrastructure such as grain elevators and storage facities cotton gin and warehouses, textile mills that make thread to make clothes and a country that feeds itself, cloth itself, and protect itself is a strong country.

This Governor Polis is one stupid Sob. What he wants to do is make rigging a election legal.. The voting process he wants can’t be done and the people will not accept it and put up with it. this could cause a civil war that the Democrats could not win and they damn sure would not have the military backing them. polis needs to disappear while he can.

Polis got elected in Colorado because of all the californians moving here. This state has been ruined by all these out of stater’s. I was born here in Colorado and the state now cost to much for most of us to live here. This kind of crap being pulled by democrats is going to cause a war.

This is happening everywhere when the Democrats leave California, they come to other states and then slowly change it to what they left. We have them coming here in droves from California to Nevada and slowly its changed and rent and all has skyrocketed because of them. They’re even trying to change certain gun laws here. Not going to happen.

As a voting Coloradoan living in the Southern half of the State, I’ve long believed the evidence that Denver and it surrounding satellites run roughshod over the other municipalities of the State. This nefarious legislation and the fact that it will be signed by a California transplant that purchased his office, is proof that Coloradoans no longer have control of our State. Between this legislative miscarriage and the ERPO legislstion that is being forced through it’s time to make a stand. Allowing Democrats to run amok over our Republic has gone on too long. Time for Rebellion against our State government is nigh

So, a governor actually believes that two very populace States should control the election of our Presidency? That isn’t a democracy, it’s a mob.

Colorado is a great and beautiful State, with the same problem the Electoral College holds. There’s the “mob” of the blue large cities and the forgotten minority of the rest of the State. Our Founding Fathers saw this problem long ago, and fixed it, because they believed that all Americans should have an equal say about who would be elected to manage the affairs of the Nation.

Thank you William John Meegan…. This is sooo dishonest. We do have to stand by our Constitution and Bill of Rights of, by and for us. Those who struggled to create our freedom knew history and human tendencies. This undermining America within continues because of our deliberately ignorant education system and media. As one high school teacher once told me many years ago…”we can’t moralize.” It was baloney cuz I remembered kids being rewarded for being “good citizens” in grammar school.
The electoral college guarantees less populated areas an equal voice in government. These are the areas that produce everything everyone needs to survive.

Democrat do not want to obey the constitution then they can leave office because we the people do not need to be paying these treasonous SOBs, the desire of the gallows, after all they are guilty,If nothing else but of the deaths of all died for the Constitution the bill of rights in the rule of law.

The liberal states are now used to ignoring federal law. Everyone who ever voted to make a drug legal and collect money (taxes) for it’s sale should be charged with racketeering including the Governors that signed those bills. Every pot shop and dispensary should be shut down and the owners hauled off to prison along with those who grow it. They have been allowed to thumb their noses at the Federal system and Constitution so long they feel they can do anything they want with impunity.
Actions have consequences and INACTION has consequence as well.

I think a better idea would be impose an electoral college system at the state level, where each county gets a certain number of votes, with more populated counties only having a few more votes than the rural counties. The current system lets the large cities elect the state officials, which does not seem to be working well.

Changing the Constitution and eliminating the Electoral College is synonymous with voting redistricting (a tactic often criticized by the left as racist) in order to benefit a particular party. Why else would the Democrats want this in effect? Maybe it is because too many people are starting to see just how corrupt they are, and this is their last chance to maintain power, by whatever means possible. It would never serve the country’s citizens well to have a couple of states monopolizing voting results. I hope the Constitution is never changed just because one party doesn’t like a certain article.

These commie Democrats think the American people are going to side with them. They think they can arbitrarily ignore our constitution and frankly disrupt the workings of voting. The electoral college is there to protect the small states from the large states taking complete control over who wins. This is the start of their push to takeover the United States of America from within. The Democrats have shown themselves to be anti-American using our system of government to destroy us from within. Little by little they are patient and have over the last 20 years through the Clinton, Bush and Obama years to erode our system of government especially controlling votes illegally in each election process. Wake up America we need to put a stop to the Democratic party this next election or we’ll more than likely lose the America we grew up in.

Watch out what you wish for, Because today you May be a Democrat but tomorrow you may change Party’s, (I did)If it goes by Popular vote, there will be Democrat’s forever in power. because N.Y N.J, Mass. California and Illinois will dictate who wins the Elections, because those 5 States are heavily populated and will always vote Dem. The reason the Forefathers did it this way was to prevent something like that. Present system works great always has, Let the best man/women win by the majority of States not just a few.

I cannot believe how dumb we have become about our own history. We live in an age of feelers instead of thinkers, opinions instead of facts and decorum replaced by bullying/inside jobs. I certainly hope the group after the millennials right the ship, and grasp the need to include all Americans (ie..electoral votes matter) in the voting process, not just the big states.

It appears from the replies to this editorial that some are not understanding the scheme. It is being made from the state level, not the federal. The reason it is unConstitutional is because the U.S. Constitution requires a vote of the Electors to produce a winner. If the Democrats try to do this and their result is counter to the Electors, the election will go to the U.S. Supreme Court to settle. It is illegal to try and get around the U.S. Constitution without the proper amendment process in Congress and 2/3’s of the states voting on it.
