GOP Sen. After Reparations Question to McConnell: ‘I Am So Sick of This S—‘

Indiana Republican Sen. Todd Young was not having it Tuesday after Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky was asked at a news conference about a report that his ancestors owned slaves.

On Monday, NBC News published a story claiming two of McConnell’s great-grandfathers owned slaves in Alabama.

NBC tried to tie McConnell’s family history to the fact that the Senate majority leader opposes paying reparations to the descendants of slaves.

“I don’t think reparations for something that happened 150 years ago, when none of us currently living are responsible, is a good idea,” McConnell said June 18, according to NBC.

“We’ve tried to deal with our original sin of slavery by fighting a civil war, by passing landmark civil rights legislation. We’ve elected an African-American president,” he added.

McConnell addressed the report Tuesday at the Senate GOP leadership’s weekly news conference, as The Daily Wire pointed out.

“You know, I find myself in the same position as President Obama,” McConnell said.

“We both oppose reparations and we both are the descendants of slave owners,” he added.

The fact that McConnell’s ancestry is now controversial reportedly caught the ire of Young.

“When McConnell was asked at presser about his great-great grandfather being a slaveowner in Alabama, and whether that has changed his mind about reparations, Sen Todd Young, standing behind McConnell, turned and walked away,” CNN Capitol Hill reporter Kristin Wilson Keppler‏ tweeted.

Young then reportedly told one of his staffers, “I am so sick of this s—.”

McConnell’s claim that Obama’s ancestors owned slaves as well is not without merit.

An amateur genealogist discovered in 2007, while Obama was running for president, that his great-great-great-great-grandfather owned two slaves, as did his great-great-great-great-great-grandmother, according to The Guardian.

A version of this story appears on the Western Journal website.

They never mentions The Indians. My husband was of Cherokee Heritage. My children are part Cherokee. This is an outrage. People today are not responsible for the sins of others in the past. Live and let live Please. All these people needs to just shut up. Indians were put on Reservations in parts that most people would not want to live. My Husband’s Father refused to go to a Reservations. Made his living by The Lumber Industry. My husband was a Auto Mechanic from 1957 to 1971. He also got saved and Preached The Word of God until 2013. He died in 2014.

This thing about REPARATIONS is just a ploy to get BLACKS to vote for CERTAIN CANDIDATES…has nothing to do with reality. NO ONE ALIVE TODAY AND PAYING TAXES “EVER” OWNED A SLAVE. What our ancestors did 150 years ago WE HAD NO CONTROL OVER.

You are 100% correct! There are many blacks whose ancestors also owned slaves. They get it and are also opposed to reparations being paid to people that were not even alive during the time of slavery in the USA! It is true that the Democrats could care less about reparations, but are pushing the issue ONLY to get as many of the African-American voters to vote for them. What those voters don’t get is the fact that the Democrats and RINOs have historically fallen back on their “promises” to voters AFTER they get elected and re-elected! WAKE UP, PEOPLE! They have not worked for “We The People” for many decades! They are only in it to become wealthy!

The point is that NOBODY should be paying reparations to anybody. No one alive today was a slave or slave owner. Not their parents, or Grandparents or Great grandparents.

I personally think that anyone who claims slave ancestry should be paid, on the spot, no questions asked, a million dollars.

    In Confederate currency.

They want reparations, which in turn should be the cause for said black ancestors to lose the US Citizenship, hence Article 14 will get voided. So, as soon as money is being disbursed they should begin packing their bags ’cause they will not longer have legal status in the country.
Slavery, without a doubt, is a dark period on American history, yet how many blacks would today be in America should they would not have been brought in. Today 95% of America black population would have been born in Africa, of course, with all the comforts America offers… NOT!

Sorry, but 95% of slaves did NOT come from Africa.

Actually Obama’s history is not one of slavery. His father, wherever the hell he is from, was never a slave of the States. His white mother then moved him to Hawaii, and THAT is the beginning of Barry’s intro to the US.

Then we need to find how many peoples ancestors died in the Civil War to free the slaves do they get paid too? What a bunch of crap.

Yes, I want reparations for my ancestors that fought and died to free the slaves!

The cry for reparations is a cry from some to garner black votes, to divide the country, and those people realize it isn’t feasible and is counter-productive as well. Fuggedaboutit.

This reparations is one of the dumbest things that has been proposed ever. I personally do NOT owe anyone who’s ancestry is from slaves brought here!!!!! Many of my ancesters along with millions of others came long after slavery was over. This is ridiculous…..

600,000 UNION SOLDIERS DIED TO FREE YOU YOU UNGRATEFUL BASTARDS! ONE WHITE SOLDIER DIED FOR EVERY 6 SLAVES!!!!! I’D SAY THAT IS REPARATION ENOUGH!

And until 2 1/2 years ago Obama owned 330 million slaves. Where are our “reparations” for that? Thankfully our current President is closing the plantations and freeing us. And “the masters” hate him for it.

Slavery, wasn’t just here in the U.S.A. It was world wide.
It wasn’t aimed at a certain race of people…
What gets me pissed off, is its being used today as a political gain.
The democratic party has been desperate for years, and it’s been one thing after the other.
To pay out funds to a certain race, because of world wide slavery
is not really the right approach, considering that the world back in
This time era, was completely different than it is today.
Let the democratic party pay for this, because in that time era, they were the ones who fought to keep slavery alive.
It was called the Cilvil war.

WHY???? It’s just to get votes. Now Harris wants to propose a plan to give 100 Billion for home ownership. Where does all this crap stop. My family and ancestors never had slaves. No one is responsible for their ancestors. You want something go to work. You want votes then get a good platform to stand on and quit looking for the easy way. The bashing of other people will not get you votes.

Sen. Todd Young is not only spot-on, but he is also unquestionably spot-on! Reparations are just another play for more “freebees,” more free stuff by the “Gimme” crowd. No reparations are owed … and none will be paid. Period!

Seeing that BOTH sets of my grandparents did not come to America until the early 1900’s, I don’t owe anyone shit!!! My family wasn’t even here when there was slavery!

The fact is that more than 620,000 people died in The Civil War over slavery. The price has been paid in the blood of those who died. For Presidential candidates to call for reparations just shows that they are only doing so to gain as many uneducated black votes as possible. More manipulation by the Democrats, as always.
