Reporters have been camping outside of Brett Kavanaugh’s home ever since a California professor alleged he sexually assaulted her more than 30 years ago when they were drunk at a party.
At one point, Kavanaugh’s wife, Ashley, emerged from the house and approached the media. What was going to happen next was anyone’s guess.
Then she stared handing out cupcakes.
“Per our CBS News cameraman at Kavanaugh’s house, his wife handed out cupcakes from Sprinkles to any of the photogs and producers who wanted them,” CBS reporter Kathryn Watson tweeted.

There are a few theories about the motivation behind the gesture.
The most obvious and likely theory is that she was just trying to be nice to the reporters.

Some critics of the liberal media speculated it could have been some impressive trolling. The media is helping facilitate the attempted destruction of her husband’s reputation after all.
Another person put it like this: “Only a Southerner would think ‘Oh, you hate my family? Here, have a cupcake.’”
Mrs. Kavanaugh is handing out cupcakes to reporters and photographers who are gathered outside her house.
A quick Google search tells me she's from Abilene, Texas. Not surprised at all…only a Southerner would think "Oh, you hate my family? Here, have a cupcake."

Still, Kavanaugh opponents used the opportunity to compare Ashley Kavanaugh’s situation to that of accuser Christine Blasey Ford.
Kavanaugh’s wife gets to bring cupcakes out to the press outside of their house.
His accuser has to go into hiding.
Great society we’ve got going here.

The media reports that Kavanaugh's wife handed out cupcakes to every reporter who were at their house.
Meanwhile, nobody was handing out cupcakes at Dr. Ford’s house because she had to leave over the death threats she received.

Kavanaugh is scheduled to testify before the Senate Judiciary Committee on Monday. Despite a recent claim from her attorney that she is ready to testify, Ford has so far refused to do so on Monday. Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley is pursuing every avenue to get more information from Ford about her allegation, but she has been uncooperative.
It’s unclear at this point what Republicans plan to do if she doesn’t testify, though there are only two options: Delay Kavanaugh’s confirmation, or hold the vote to confirm him.
