Young Boy Finds Elderly Man on Ground Covered in Blood, Helps Track Down Wife To Save Him

Most people believe that life can change in a moment. Still, it’s one thing to mentally know this truth and another to experience it.

Few of us live our lives as though they could vanish in the blink of an eye.

A junior-high student now knows that “man is like a breath; his days are like a passing shadow,” as it is said in Psalm 144:4. And thanks to his quick action, one man continues to draw breath.

Orangevale, California, resident Jet Massagli is just like any ordinary boy — if only a tad more adventurous. If you visit his YouTube page, you’ll find videos of the young man indulging in all sorts of exciting activities.

From throwing hatchets to flipping balisong knives, Jet gives every impression that he’s a boy who doesn’t shy away from challenges. The fact that he was popping wheelies in the street on his bike on March 8 proved providential.

KTXL reported that Jet looked up from a trick just in time to see an elderly man trip and strike the concrete sidewalk face first. Instead of wasting time gawking, Jet dropped his bike and ran right over to him.

“It kind of scared me, because I thought he was gonna pass out or something because (blood) was running, dripping all over his clothes and all over the ground,” he said. “I came over and said, ‘Sir, are you OK?’”

Jet had good reason to feel afraid. The National Council on Aging has reported that “falls are the leading cause of fatal and non-fatal injuries for older Americans.”

The man, an 88-year-old named Chuck Martin, took blood thinners for an existing medical condition. That left him vulnerable to excessive bleeding — and even the possibility of bleeding to death.

Recalling the incident, Martin said, “I was trying to use the phone and it was bloody. It was all bloody, I couldn’t see anything, I couldn’t see it.”

Fortunately, Jet sprang into action. He got Martin’s home address, hopped on his bike and pedaled for all he was worth.

“I rode on my bike as fast as I could ’cause I was worried he was going to pass out,” Jet said.

Jet alerted Martin’s wife, Lizbeth, and she came to her husband’s aid, sitting with him until first responders arrived. Fortunately, Martin only needed stitches and antibiotics.

“This was really helpful,” the elderly man said. “Really so enormous, because I could’ve bled out fairly quickly.”

“Jet’s a hero,” Lizbeth Martin added. We couldn’t agree more.
